Kathryn

This is my blog.

Not sure how these blog things work. This is 4 years into being on oxygen and four years until my transplant.

Hi Judy,

Doesn't matter to me. PH can effect both heart and lungs. Why did they say you are too sick? Could you need a heart-lung? Stanford is a good center. I wish you the best of luck getting your insurance changed. Whatever happened to the second opinion?

Hi Kathryn,No I'm not on a list for lung transplant. And I have other problems besides my lungs,my heart is extremely large due to PH. I have nothing positive from my Dr. He informed me I'm not a good candidate for this transplant,I already asked. So now I looking into maybe changing my insurance from Kaiser to other, and seek Medical at Standford in Northern Calif.Been doing research online.I'm not giving up.

Robin- ramble on. I wish I could retire but I am not sick enough nor am I old enough. They just did away with my dept (July 1). I get stressed out pretty easily when there is a major stressor. Enjoy every day!

Hi Kathryn, I used to work as a RN but I think Ihad a few of the problems in 2003 but kept working , though I felt very faguied after a shifts. I worked I.C.U. from 1993 to 1997. I then went to work in recovery from 1997 till 2008 when I put in my resignation. I had gone from working 12 hour shifts a week to 8 hour shifts hoping the less stress and lenghts of shifts would help . It did not. But I finally decided to quit work because I need to enjoy the rest of the life that I am continuing to have. I'm sorrry for my rambling on but this is the first time I have met people like me. Thank you for help for being you. Robin

Hi Kathryn. I left a comment for you yesterday but I don't know what happened to it. I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well and that you have been able to make it to the transplant games a few times. I've never been. It's great that you have such a supportive husband. I have one too. He has been fantastic through everything. I was going to ask whether you had a boy or a girl but you already answered that. My son just turned 10 last month. We're tying for another baby right now and would love a girl. I will certainly not be disappointed if we end up with another boy though. Hope you had a fabulous Mother's Day!!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. What meds are you on? I was going to ask whether you had a son or daughter but you already answered that. We are trying for another baby right now and would love to have a girl next time since we already have a boy. I certainly wouldn't complain about another boy though. It's nice to have such a supportive husband. My husband has been fantastic through everyting. I don't know how I would've done it without him. That's great that you've been able to go to the transplant games. I don't think I'd do very well. I used to swim a lot and used to run but all I do now is ride my recumbent exercise bike. It would be fun to watch though.
Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!!!!!!!

Hi Carrie- they also do singles but the opinion is going towards a double being better. Too bad about getting the other form of diabetes. I am doing fantastically. My daughter who was almost 4 when I got my transplant is now 16 and driving as of this month. It is amazing. My husband has always been there for me, even with my tendancy to get too wrapped up with Career and supporting lung transplant patients. I went to the transplant games 3 times (swimming) and it was wonderful to be able to do that.

Kathryn,
Yes, I have been doing really well. My kidney started working the moment it was hooked up and has been working great ever since. Unfortunately, due to Prograf and Prednisone, I am now a type 2 diabetic. I traded being a type 1 for a type 2. I take Metformin for it and I eat healthy and exercise, so it's not too bad. How have you been doing in the 12 years since your lung transplant? Are lungs always transplanted in pairs or do they ever transplant a singe one?
