I have a friend who had a kidney transplant a year ago. He has maxed out his Health Insurance and depleted his HSA. He has now been diagnosed with leukemia that is a direct result of the transplant. Do you guys know of a charitable organization that might be willing to help him financially? The medications are really beyond his means. Any tips or advice welcome.
You might talk to your friend about considering a fundraising campaign through the National Foundation for Transplants. We work with transplant patients (both pre and post-transplant) to help them raise funds to cover the soaring expenses related their transplants--including medication, insurance premiums and co-pays, travel, doctors' visits and much more.
You can contact me directly at ejoyner@transplants.org if you'd like any additional information. You can also check out our Web site at www.transplants.org for more info. I hope we can help your friend.
